Year in Review: Top Stories of 2012

See what stories the Northampton Community cared about the most in 2012.

Now that 2012 is coming to a close, it's time to see what Patch stories were the most popular in Northampton Township.

1. On Feb. 13, . Shipley's friends and family took to the Internet to try and find him. The Twitter hashtag #findshipley was picked up almost immediately and was used by his friends and followers to spread the word about his disappearance. The search continued through March and April. Then in May he safely returned to the area.

2. In April, plans to install cell towers throughout township neighborhoods had residents furious. Concerned Northampton homeowners held a meeting with local politicians to try and figure out what to do to stop the tower installation. Court orders were filed, then in mid-August, after months of public outcry, private and public meetings and a "plethora of litigation," Northampton Township's Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve a settlement with American Tower Corporation.

3. On Dec. 21, police charged a juvenile with terroristic threats and possession of a firearm by a minor after the 14-year-old threatened to bring a gun and knives to Council Rock South. The boy's father was arrested for resisting arrest and obstruction of the administration of justice, and his mother was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm, endangering the welfare of children, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.The investigation is ongoing at this time, but police said that based on the investigation that included several interviews, the juvenile was acting alone.

4. The presidential election was a hot topic throughout Northampton Township, with many people checking Patch to see when the presidential debates would take place.

5. . Police were dispatched shortly before 11 p.m. after a car struck a tree. According to dispatch reports, EMS requested four medic units to the scene. PennStar 6, an emergency medical helicopter, was placed on standby.
