Week in Review: Top Stories from June 18 - 24

: The Council Rock School Board approved contracts for two of the district's employee unions on Thusrday, June 21. The board voted 8-1 to ratify a new contract for the Council Rock Education Association, which is made up of the district’s 853 teachers and guidance counselors. The board also approved a new contract for the Council Rock Education Support Professionals Association, which is made up of the district's 503 professional support staff including teaching assistants, school secretaries, maintenance support, bus monitors and recess and cafeteria aides.

: Nearly 40 Northampton residents filled Courtroom 1 in Doylestown on Tuesday, June 19, as a judge gave signed permission for a stay of proceedings so the township and American Tower Corporation can work to negotiate a solution. The township, ATC and Citizens of Northampton Township Against Cell Towers (CONTACT) have until August 31 to work toward a solution to the Distributed Antenna System issue that has mobilized the community in recent months.

: After a lively public comment session, the Council Rock School Board approved 5-4 a $201.8 million budget for the 2012-2013 fiscal year on Thursday night. The approved budget will raise taxes 1.7 percent, which is about $70 more a year for the average homeowner in the district.

: Endless Summer Tanning, located at 1452 E. Village Rd., abruptly closed its doors in the middle of the night in early June, with no warning to its customers or property management firm. Some customers still had packages available for use at the salon.
