Community Corner

Week in Review: April 17-23

Here's the top articles for this week on Northampton Patch.

  • : In a town hall held at the  last night, about 20 community members listened while Petri made a fairly detailed presentation about the upcoming state budget. Amidst strife about Gov. Tom Corbett's proposed 2011-2012 budget, Rep. Scott Petri (R-Bucks) said "the good news for Pennsylvania's future is we have coal and Marcellus Shale," adding that the extraction and control of both resources must be handled safely and smartly.
  • : As stated about postage stamps in Theresa Rebeck’s “Mauritius,” it is the errors that make them interesting. The same goes for her characters. “Mauritius,” a roller coaster ride about philately (yes, stamp collecting) and misanthropy produced by Langhorne Players, runs through May 7 at Spring Garden Mill in Tyler State Park.
  • : Some of the roads and bridges Northampton residents take every day have disintigrated to a point far past being nuisances. In fact, in a study released by advocacy group Transportation for America, Pennsylvania holds the top spot for the most deteriorating bridges in the country, a whopping 26.5 percent. This week Northampton Patch highlighted the bridges in the worst shape and some of the most teeth-rattling spots on the roads. Some of the locations mentioned included Elm Avenue and 2nd Street Pike. Feel free to add your own worst spots in the comments on any Rough Roads article.
  • : Members of the 501st Legion and library staff produced a Star Wars themed event for children, who were on spring break, at the Free Library of Northampton Township on Wednesday.
