Wait Times Vary at Polling Places

Residents have experienced wait times of 10 to 40 minutes to vote in Northampton Township.

Wait times for residents wanting to vote have varied throughout Northampton Township.

While there wasn't much of a wait at the Senior Center or the township administration building this morning or afternoon, some residents have said they've waited up to 40 minutes to cast a vote.

"I waited 30 minutes around 9:30 a.m. at the Northampton Volunteer Fire Station on New Road," Sheri Slack Secules said. "I would have gladly waited hours if it means lots of people are voting and that everyone is wanting their voice to be heard."

The wait at Advent Lutheran Church, where Northampton's first district votes, was about 30 minutes this morning when the polls opened, according to Molly Sypek.

So far, the longest wait that Patch has heard about was 40 minutes at St. John's United Methodist Church around 9:30 a.m.

The wait was longer than Sandy Simons' previous experience, "but, it went smoothly," she said.

"Was glad to see so many exercising their right to vote!" she added.

Lines were moving pretty swiftly at the administration building this afternoon.

Upon entering the room, residents would check in on the right before being led to the two voting booths. After voting, they would continue to the door, making a full circle in the room.

"We have it set up to get a flow going," Marc J. Pontarelli said. He is the chief of elections for voters in district 18.

Pontarelli said the average wait time at the administration building has been about 10 minutes.
