Viewfinder: Churchville Nature Center Prepares for Wildflower Sale

The Churchville Nature Center is already preparing for their big wildflower sale next month, their biggest fundraiser.

The Churchville Nature Center’s annual 2011 Wildflower Sale will be held on Saturday, April 30, through Sunday, May 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There will be a preview sale for Nature Center members on Friday, April 29.

The sale features a wide variety of plants, with an emphasis on plants that are beneficial to the environment. This includes many native wildflowers, trees, shrubs and aquatic plants. There will be plants for attracting hummingbirds and butterflies, and many of the trees and shrubs featured are nut and berry producers. Many plants featured are good for xeriscaping (landscaping with drought resistant plants), an increasingly important type of gardening, as droughts are predicted to become more commonplace, and water continues to become an increasingly endangered resource.

Marlin Corn, the Churchville Nature Center's Naturalist, with help from volunteers, has been busy growing their own plants in the Nature Center's greenhouse. They are alreading potting the growing plants in preperation for next month's sale.
