Prepare for Hurricane Sandy, 'Frankenstorm' in Northampton
If Hurricane Sandy works its way up north as predicted by the National Weather Service, heavy rain and winds could hit the area early next week.
The Emergency Management team hasn't met to discuss preparedness plans for Northampton Township if Hurricane Sandy reaches Bucks County, but the community can still be proactive in planning for extreme weather.
If Hurricane Sandy heads north as predicted by the National Weather Service, it will bring hazardous weather, including heavy rainfall, high winds and possible flooding. The forecast shows rain starting Saturday, Oct. 27 and lasting through Tuesday, Oct. 31.
Though the Township's Emergency Management team may not meet until this weekend, as a resident, you can prepare by having an emergency kit ready along with important phone numbers.

During last year's Hurricane Irene, PECO suggested having its emergency telephone number (1-800-841-4141) handy, a flashlight with new batteries on every floor of the home and a battery powered clock and radio.
Bucks County offers a list of emergency supplies to have on hand in case of extreme weather. Additionally, the Ready Bucks site suggests securing your property (bring in outdoor furniture, decorations and anything that is not tied down) and be sure to have a full tank of gas in case you need to evacuate the area.

The Red Cross also suggests having an emergency kit ready. Have bottled water on hand—one gallon per person, per day—and non-perishable food. Candles, matches, flashlights, extra batteries and a battery powered radio should be readily available.
And if you have children or pets, the Red Cross suggests having additional supplies such as bottles, formula, baby food and diapers ready, as well as your pet's leash, ID, food, carrier and water bowl.
Though the storm is expected to hit the area sometime Sunday through Tuesday, a message from the National Weather Service said that it will ultimately depend on the eventual track and evolution of the storm.
"There remains quite a bit of uncertainty with the track and therefore the actual forecast details across our area at this time," according to the NWS.
Northampton Township's website and the Township Channel (channel 22 for Comcast, channel 24 for Verizon) will be updated with information regarding the storm.
