Kids in grades K-4 are invited to a SpongeBob celebration at the Free Library of Northampton Township on Wednesday

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?

If you can answer that question, chances are you have a child who might be interested in the SpongeBob celebration at the Township at 6:30 on Wednesday, March 30.

The hour-long, free event is open to kids in kindergarten through fourth grade, and registration is already underway.

“We wanted to do a program that would be popular with both boys and girls, and we know the SpongeBob books and videos go out a lot,” said Barbara Lewis, one of the children’s librarians running the event.

Upon entering Bikini Bottom (a.k.a. the children's library), kids will be treated to stories, crafts and refreshments.

“We also plan to play wacky games, like a Krabby Patty relay race,” Lewis said.

Adult mateys are free to peruse the library on their own, or stay for the celebration.

“Parents are welcome to come! We like to have parents around to help with crafts, but they don’t have to stay for the event, as long as they stay in the library somewhere,” said Children’s Librarian Christy Lazzarino.

Since space is limited and quickly filling up, Lazzarino recommends reserving a space right away. If you don't make it, don’t be “krabby.” The library is hosting several other fun events for kids this spring, including a Fancy Nancy celebration on April 2 and a two-day Spring Break Star Wars event. These programs are in addition to the weekly story times conducted for babies, toddlers and preschoolers by these dynamic librarians.

“I love the creative process of coming up with a theme and coordinating crafts, snacks and stories,” Lazzarino said. “That’s the best part of my job.”
