Historical Society Announces Poster Contest Winners

The Northampton Historical Society announced the winners of its poster contest.

The Northampton Historical Society honored the winners of its poster contest at the Board of Supervisors meeting on Wednesday, June 27. Five students were named and their posters were displayed during the meeting.

Kellen Shao won first place, while Caroline Gomez-Bay and Bridget Cleary tied for second; Brianna Kirk placed third and Lindsey Sklar was the Honorable Mention. All of the winners are from Teacher Lynn Goodwin's fifth grade class at Rolling Hills Elementary in Richboro.

Shao, Gomex-Bay and Kirk received their awards in person, while the other two were away at summer camp.

The poster contest was launched to stir up awareness about May as Historic Preservation Month by the Historical Society. Students in grades 3 through 6 were asked to create a poster that showed what historical preservation meant to them.

The Historical Society's youth coordinator, public relations liaison and newsletter editor Julie Mueller explained the criteria that the judges were looking for in the posters.

The judges looked at "how they answered the question, how they presented it and the neatness of it," Mueller explained.

The first place winner received $50; second place received $25; third place received two tickets to the Fonthill Museum in Doylestown; and everyone who submitted a poster won a family membership (or membership renewal) to the Northampton Township Historical Society.

Mueller said that the Historical Society hopes that the poster contest becomes and annual event.
