Friends of Churchville Nature Center’s Annual Fundraiser Tonight

Tonight's auction is open to the public and will benefit Churchville Nature Center's many programs.

This year's Fundraising Auction and Member's Social will be held at Churchvillle Nature Center Friends Board President Dan Wasserstrom's Richboro home, 374 Worthington Mill Road. You need not be a member to attend.

The evening will begin with a short annual member's meeting at 6:15 p.m. (open to the public). After that, guests are invited to socialize indoors with refreshments while perusing the silent auction items. Or they can choose to enjoy the outdoor patio before the auction begins.

The auction will feature items such as an Apple iPAD, golf outings, a getaway weekend at the Four Seasons or Great Wolf Lodge and other items.

The Churchville Nature Center holds various fundraisers throughout the year including the spring wildflower sale, the migratory marathon, the summer powwow at Core Creek Park and the fall festival. The auction is not held every year, however, it was very successful last year according to Assistant DirectorKirsten Becker.

"Our fundraisers support the nature center and its educational programs, as well as preservation for open space," said Becker. "This will be a fun night to get out and socialize."

The nature center has grown from a small staff housed in a farmhouse, to the current facility and staff of five administrators and 30 part-time educators. Twenty four thousand school students visit the nature center each year, Becker said. Over the summer, activities will include the summer camp, campfire and a powwow.

"Native American dancers come from all over the country to get together, dance and entertain," Becker said. The event is held at Core Creek Park on July 23 and 24.

"We want to preserve this property for generations to come who will appreciate the nature center and all it has to offer," she said.

Locals tonight will enjoy the lovely Water Stream Farm, the home of hosts Dan and June Wasserstrom in Richboro and also a working horse farm. Tickets are $25 each or $40 per couple.
