A heat advisory means that a period of very hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and hig humidity could can combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.

The excessive heat could cause heat-related illnesses for those who exercise strenuously in the hot sun or are inside non-air conditioned buildings or cars.

The National Weather Service advises to drink plenty of fluids, stay in in an air conditioned room, stay out of the sun  and check up on relatives and neighbors.

If you work or spend time outside, the Weather Service also advises to take extra precaution. In order to reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.

If possible, reschedule strenuous activity to the early morning or evening hours.

Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency and 9-1-1 should be called.
