Wrightstown Farmers' Market Opens Saturday

With spring comes flowers, baseball and, of course, fresh veggies. Thankfully, you can purchase them locally starting Saturday at the Wrightstown Farmers’ Market.

The market opens for its 2012 season this weekend and will be held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. until Thanksgiving. The market is held at the Wrightstown Township Municipal Building parking lot, 2203 Second Street Pike.

The market is sponsored by the Bucks County Foodshed Alliance.

This year there will be 26 vendors selling their own farm products and handmade items, said Robyn Hoy, manager of the Wrightstown market.

“With the early warming we had, is bringing the first strawberries of the year and they are exceptionally sweet,” Hoy said in an email message.  There will also be asparagus, spinach, kale, chard, dandelion greens, radishes, leeks, spring onions and a variety of herbs from Blooming Glen Farm and Milk House Farm. Mainly Mushrooms will have locally foraged mushrooms and ramps.

And it’s not just veggies that will be available. There will be chicken, eggs, cheeses, yogurt, milk and pork from animals living on pasture and without hormones or antibiotics. Plus, there will be 100 percent grass fed beef.

“We'll have gluten-free and vegan products, fair trade, organic, locally-roasted coffee, nut butters, breads and sweets, all natural dog food, handmade soaps and hand-crafted pottery,” Hoy said.

There are a few new additions at this year’s market. Eat This will offer jams, marmalades and desserts. Outside the Box Landscape will sell handcrafted birdhouses and garden trellises.

The Goose Creek Pioneers will be at the market this Saturday providing folk music for entertainment while you shop.

The Bucks County Foodshed Alliance table will be handing out free balloons for children in celebration of opening day.
