Something for Everyone at Jake's Eatery

This local restaurant offers a cozy atmosphere, extensive menu, reasonable prices and kid friendly fare.

One of the longest running restaurants in Richboro,  on Bustleton Pike has been voted Best of Bucks several years in a row. The credit goes to restaurant owner and Richboro local Stephen G. Jacobs.

Born and bred in the area, Jacobs has lived in Northampton Township his entire life and worked in the food industry since he was a teenager.

“My first job back in 1978 was as a dishwasher for the Holland House Inn (now Johnny Apple’s), and I also worked at the old Spread Eagle Inn,” recalled Jacobs. “I noticed there were only one or two places in the area that served full blown sit down breakfast, so that’s what I wanted to do.”

In 1991, after managing several other restaurants in the area, Jacobs opened his own, FlapJakes, in the Giuseppes shopping center. He reopened a few years later in his current location as Jake's Eatery, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Since then, Jake’s Eatery has become known as a real crowd pleaser, thanks in part to its comfortable atmosphere and an extensive menu that runs the gamut from pancakes and burgers to salad and seafood. The restaurant also serves beer, wine and mixed drinks. And breakfast is served daily until 3 pm -- always a hit with the kids.

“A lot of kids love pancakes and French toast; when schools have half days we tend to get really busy,” said Jacobs.

Another reason Jake’s Eatery appeals to families is its affordability. You can still order old fashioned favorites like a hot dog (“Jake Dog”) for $2.75 or a hamburger for $5.

“My philosophy has always been great food and great service at a great price,” said Jacobs. “Our prices are extremely reasonable; you can take your family out to eat at Jake’s and not get clobbered on price.”

Despite the low prices, Jacobs is committed to delivering the highest quality.

“Everything we serve -- sauces, gravies, soups -- it’s all made fresh,” Jacobs said.

For diners with an adventurous palette, Jake’s Eatery pushes the envelope with daily breakfast and lunch specials and dinner specials Thursdays through Saturdays. Stop in this weekend for specials including a bayou omelette, chocolate pancakes with bananas and candied pecans, sesame crusted tuna steak, and Bailey’s Irish Cream cheesecake made by Jake’s pastry chef.

It’s no wonder Jake’s Eatery attracts quite a crowd, especially on weekends. Jacobs is opening a second location in Newtown this spring, which he expects will help with crowd control.

“Now if you’re coming from nearby and you see a line out the door, you can drive over to Newtown and still get the same menu, service and prices.”

With the new restaurant opening soon, these days Jacobs is spending more time managing the business than cooking on the line. But he’s never far from the action.

“I enjoy running a restaurant, and it‘s important for me to be there,” said Jacobs. “My roots are all in the kitchen.”
