Richboro Resident, Singer Fills Air with Delight
Despite not being formally trained, Howard Guarani has been singing in the Northampton area since his retirement.
For Richboro resident Howard Guarani, music is something that he has always loved. From the Four Seasons to Frankie Avalon, to the A Cappella groups standing on the corners in South Philly, the sweet sounds wafting through the air have always intrigued him. Now, after retirement, he is branching out on his own and delighting crowds in the Northampton area.
“I grew up as a shower singer,” joked Guarani. “South Philly in the 50’s and 60’s, everybody sang. On the corners, all over the place and I grew up with that. I really love singing, and plan on doing this for as long as I can.”
About eight years ago, within his 55 and older community, a group was formed that began doing shows and it was then that Howard started to gain the confidence to sing on his own.

“I had sung in choirs for a long time, but that was always in a group, and not doing solo stuff,” he said. “Within this group we started to put a couple of shows together and we had people who led us that had a Broadway background. They began to give me some solos to do and one thing led to another.”
His first stint as a solo performer came at the former located in Southampton. When that closed down he began making the rounds at assisted living and nursing homes and eventually put together a CD.

“I got a call about a month later from one of the owners here [] and they wanted me to sing at their Italian night. That’s what led to this and last month we did our first one,” he said.
From Sinatra to Dean Martin and Elton John, he croons with the best of them, and always with a smile as big as New York City itself.
“I like it a whole lot. I don’t play an instrument, and I’m untrained professionally which is true, but some people did give me some pointers and some training,” he said. “Terri and Marion Evans gave me some great pointers, and they both had a lot of experience. With their help, I began to have the confidence to do something on my own."
“It’s been about five years now that I have been doing something on my own outside the Regency Group, and I just love it,” he said.
