Ring in the first weekend in May with some great outdoor (and indoor) entertainment. Here are some options:

What: The annual street fair hosted by the Newtown Business Association

Why go: The day will feature a variety of family-friendly activities, including games, food and entertainment. Area businesses set up booths along Sycamore Street and distribute information and giveaways.

Why go: Artists and performers –including a jump rope team – will entertain those perusing the sights and sounds during Doylestown’s monthly arts-centric event.

Why go: Learn about all things WWII

Why go: Ditch the Workout and Join the Cinco de Mayo Zumba Fiesta and Open House.  FREE Zumba class, refreshments and prizes.  Bucks Zumba girls will begin offering weekly Zumba and Zumba Toning classes at BucksFit in May.  Come to the open house to meet the instructors, see the facility and see why all your friends are hooked on Zumba.  For more information and a complete schedule go to www.buckszumbagirls.com.  Please send an e-mail to zumba@buckszumbagirls.com to reserve a spot in the open house.  Aqua Zumba and Zumba Gold (for active older adults) are coming soon!

What: The Bucks County Housing Group will host its second annual Mother’s Day Tea to raise money for families participating in the organization’s supportive housing programs

When/where: Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at

Why go: The event will feature tea, light refreshments, 20 vendors, a raffle and a scavenger hunt with a Kindle Fire as the prize. The Tea Can Company will be offering specialty teas. A variety of treats, including cupcakes, tea sandwiches and scones, will be served. 

Cost: Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students and $5 for children if purchased in advance. Tickets will be available at the door for $25, $15 and $10.

What: is hosting a Grand Opening Extravaganza to showcase its new shops

What: A fundraiser for Nor’Wester Readers, a canine assisted learning program that works in area school districts including Council Rock.

Where/When: Sunday at 9:30 a.m. at (use the entrance by the Arts Center)

Why go: In addition to the walk, the day will feature pet/family photography, dancing dog demonstrations, face painting, pony rides, raffles, vendors, a dog contest and more.

Cost: $15 per person, $25 for a parent and child and $50 for a family

Why go: Hear the harp melodies of Steve Guyger and other bluesmen.
