"Urinetown" Opens This Weekend

The Once Upon a Time Players will perform their comedic musical beginning tonight at the Washington Crossing Open Air Theater.

What happens when a community faces a 20-year drought, is running out of water and must find ways to cut back on usage?

In Urinetown, the namesake for a new play opening locally this weeked, the crooked leaders decide to limit the number of flushes. People must pay to use the bathroom. As with any devious administration, there is resulting duplicity and power hunger. Citizens wait in line, legs crossed, for their turn. They get angry. A few of them plot ways to stop the evil leaders.

This comedic musical by Mark Hollman and Greg Kotis is a tale of greed, corruption, love and revolution. Citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Fortunately, a hero emerges. Bobby Strong, played by Mike Nappi, decides he has had enough, and with the daughter of the opposition, plans a revolution to lead his town to freedom.
