Spring Into Summer at Tyler State Park

The Earth Center for the Arts will be hosting its fourth annual art auction and benefit on Friday with loads of local art and music at the Center for the Arts Building in Tyler Park.

After a week of rainy days, the sun is finally starting to shine again and the Tyler Park Center for the Arts is "springing into summer" with their annual art auction and benefit from 7 to 11 p.m. this Friday.

Aside from being a perfectly good excuse to turn off the air conditioning for a few hours and get out of the house, the event is also for a good cause. All of the proceeds will help renovate the historic Center for the Arts building and also to fund the organization’s other non-profit endeavors.

The auction will be led by auctioneer Chris Wise, of Rago Arts and Auction Center. But the night won’t just be people holding plastic numbered signs sitting in wooden folding chairs.

If the copious amounts of local art aren’t stimulating enough, maybe the live music provided by John Danaher or the New Hope Rhythm Review will get your blood pumping.

Not into music? Maybe the donated food from Panera Bread or the wine from the Buckingham Winery, as well as contributions made by 11 gourmet chefs can appease your pallet.

But if you are in it for the art, then you’re in luck. Woodworker Mira Nakashima, daughter of world-renowned furniture maker George Nakashima, is donating a walnut plank stool to be auctioned off. Alongside Nakashima is Sharon Carlucci’s glasswork and Amy Turner’s fiber art among other contributions from local area artists.

The couple hundred people who are expected to attend will also have an opportunity to bid on a hot air balloon ride, a couple’s massage and a vacation stay near Atlantic City.

Since this is the fourth art auction, there’s also a special "guest" – a newly added sculpture straight out of New York City has been added to the Sculpture Garden.

Owner and head instructor of Earth Center Pottery Jennifer Miller said the auction is “a great night out" and assures newcomers that they "don’t have to know anybody; everyone is very warm and welcoming.”

Miller invites anyone to come to the art auction and enjoy the local art, food, wine, music, dancing, atmosphere and a fun summer night.

And, with forecasters predicting clear skies with temperatures in the low 70s, that shouldn’t be a problem.
