South Student Wins County Art Award

Congrats to Elaine Bishop on her recent award for traditional silver print.

Council Rock South sophomore Elaine Bishop recently took home a "best of category" award at the Touch the Future art show, featuring Bucks and Montgomery county public high school students' work.

Bishop won first place in the traditional silver print category under instructor George Steinfeldt.

The 25th annual show began as a tribute Christa McAuliffe, a teacher who died aboard the Challenger. It allows local students to have their work professionally judged and gives them a venue to show their work.

“Every year I walk through this exhibit and am truly amazed,” said Linda J. Weaver, president of the Mideastern Region. “Despite all of the funding issues and hits these arts programs have taken over the years, this show has featured creative, sophisticated art work for the past 25 years. This exhibit is a great testament to the value and importance of providing our students with opportunities that go beyond standardized tests and allow them to be well-rounded young adults.”

The exhibition will be open to the public through Sunday, Feb. 26, and is free. It's held at the Montgomery County Guild of Professional Artists (MCGOPA) at SPP Galleries is located at 800 Schuylkill River Road, West Conshohocken in the Inquirer Building.
