Philly Fringe Kicks Off on Friday

The Philadelphia Live Arts Festival continues through Sept. 17.

Warminster offers plenty of summer fun, but sometimes the lure of Philadelphia beckons—and our Summer in the City feature can help guide you to the fun.

If you feel like venturing out a little farther from home, check here for a weekly suggestion of something fun or interesting to do in the City of Brotherly Love. Whether it's a restaurant to try, a festival to attend or special museum exhibits, we'll feature something different every Thursday.

This week check out the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival and Philly Fringe, an event that showcases music, theater, art and everything creative. From Sept. 2 through Sept. 17, venues throughout the city, including The Fire, InMovement Studio, Circle of Hope, Crane Arts, Walnut Street Theatre Studio 5 and Studio X (to name only a few), will open their doors for "boundary-breaking arts experiences."

The 15th annual festival features live arts performances, comedy and improv, spoken work performances, visual art and film and much more. Download a festival guide for a list of every performance and participating venue.

Individual event tickets start at $15 (for people 25 and younger) while an all access pass admitting you to every show and performance costs $400. Don't have a dime to spare? The festival features free events, too.

Some of the free events include a multi-media art installation, ZIYA at World Cafe Live, the 2011 Rocky Awards—which celebrates outstanding achievement in Greater Philadelphia's dance community—and much more. The Festival Bar and Social Club will be held at Ruba Club Studios, and is a spot where festival artists and audiences can come together for post show drinks, conversation and free entertainment. For a full list of free events, check out the festival's schedule.
