Nakashima Tour

Please join the Tyler Park Center For The Arts community as we tour the George Nakashima Studio and grounds on Saturday, June 18, 2011.     There are 14 buildings on the property, 8 of which we will visit on the tour,  all built on a Southfacing slop and landscaped over the years by Nakashima. The Showroom was built in 1954, the Conoid Studio in 1957.The Minguren Museum in 1967, and the Reception House in 1975. The Conoid Studio roof was an experimental reinforced concrete shell, and the Minguren Museum roof is a plywood Hyperbolic Paraboloid shell. There are two other Conoid Shells and two Hyperbolic elsewhere on the property, illustrating his skill and fascination with thin-shell construction.  Our group is limited to 35, the tour will begin at 10AM and not exceed 2 hours.  The entrance fee is $20.00, which will benefit the Foundation for Peace.  George Nakashima believed that through the gifting of concrete symbols of peace, formed by nature, aspiring to the Devine, worked by human hands, and consecrated to peace, universal peace might some day permeate the entire globe. The Nakashima Studio is located at 1847 Aquetong Road, New Hope, PA 18938  Please wear comfortable shoes as they will need to be removed before entering the Conoid Studio and Reception House.  Call The Tyler Park Center For The Arts at 267-218-0290 to reserve your space. Also check our website about a group Luncheon after the tour.  www.TylerParkArts.org
