Township Presents Flag to Family of Local Man Deployed to Afghanistan

Cindy and Ed Hughes participated in a flag presentation at the township building to honor their recently deployed son, Christopher.

The parents of a recently deployed Army soldier were honored as part of Northampton Township's Patriot Flag Program at the November Board of Supervisors meeting.

Cindy and Ed Hughes placed an Army flag in the display case to represent their son Christopher, who was deployed to Afghanistan on Nov. 4.

"I think it is great you honor those who serve," Ed Hughes said. "Chris is a great kid. We've already skyped him."

Both Ed and Cindy spoke highly of the flag program and said they appreciate the township's effort. Supervisor Chairman Frank Rothermel said it's a way to show appreciation for those who serve.

"It's only right for us to honor him," Rothermel said. "We have a lot of freedoms here, but it all depends upon those who are going to serve."
