Local Non-Profit Recruiting Teen Mentors

Hearts of Harmony helps area teens graduate from high school, score well on standardized tests and give back to their communities.

The fledgling non-profit organization Hearts of Harmony works with teens in programs at Rolling Hills Community Center, Sanatoga, and Ricketts Community Center, Pottstown, according to The Pottstown Post, to help them transition smoothly and successfully into adulthood.

The 8-month-old grassroots organization is run by Cessely Nixon, who has experienced adversity in her life, but who has also overcome that adversity thanks to others who got involved and made a difference. The chief executive officer is paying it forward with Hearts of Harmony, helping today's teens in sixth through 12th grades to overcome their own obstacles.

The organization's three main goals are to help teens graduate from high school, score proficient or better on state standardized testing, and complete a project to give back to their communities. To do this, Hearts of Harmony presents programs including motivational speakers, and literacy, nutritional and spiritual classes in an effort to encourage "young women and men to learn to dream bigger than a dream, live larger than life... no matter what difficulty they may be facing," Nixon told The Pottstown Post.

Hearts of Harmony teens also participate in roundtable discussions, community service opportunities, college tours and job shadowing, according to the group's website.
