Churchville Students Collect Yarn for 'Afghans for Soldiers' Project

Northampton Senior Center members will use the yarn to make afghans that will be given to deploying military at Fort Dix/Maguire Air Force Base.

Churchville Elementary School sixth graders are helping the Northampton Senior Center’s effort to keep our troops warm.

Earlier this month, the sixth graders held a Valentine’s Day Dance; each student who attended donated yarn for the senior center’s Afghans for Soldiers Project. The project, which began in 2011, is an effort to make blankets for deploying troops.

A team of seniors led by Anna Kinson will use the yarn to make afghans that will be given to deploying military at Fort Dix/Maguire Air Force Base.

Nicole Christmann and her sixth-grade daughter, Ashley, delivered the yarn this week to the senior center. The amount collected will make about 50 afghan blankets, according to volunteers.

Liberty USO volunteer Lorri Loughlin will coordinate the effort in getting the afghans to the troops.
