There will be an aerial spray for black flies along the Delaware River on Tuesday, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection announced.

The spray will begin in Upper Makefield Township in Bucks County at 8 a.m. and continue throughout the day along the Delaware River.

The spray will involve the application of Vectobac 12AS from a helicopter.  The active ingredient in Vectobac is a naturally-occurring soil bacterium.

“The helicopter will apply the Vectoback perpendicular to the river flow in designated areas by flying back and forth across the river and discharging the material from a boom arm,” an announcement from the DEP said.
