About this column:

Have a sore spot for puppy dog eyes? Can't resist scratching a cat behind the ears until he purrs delightedly? Here you'll find some of the community's pets for rescue at several local shelters.
Patty is a 16-year-old gelding who stands at 15.3 hands tall. He would be best in a home with lots of love where he could go for trail rides. Even though he has a dominant personality, Patty would be great in a field with other mares or by himself. If you're interested in learning more about Patty, contact Tails of Love Animal Rescue at (215) 396-0393 or email them at tailsoflove@hotmail.com.
Cleopatra (Cleo) is a pure breed rottweiler from Warminster with 10 years under her collar. She gets along with other dogs, kids and even cats. Her previous owner has a hectic work schedule and can't make it home in time to let her out when she needs to go, so she needs a wonderful home to stay for the rest of her years. Cleo is spayed and up-to-date on her shots. If you're interested in learning more about her, fill out an adoption form and email AFFRescue@aol.com or call Kim at (215) 676-3188 to find out more information.
Bea is a full-grown labrador retriever mix at the Bucks County SPCA. She's an active dog, but enjoys her relaxation as well. She knows how to sit, shake, is house-trained and walks on a leash. Around other dogs and cats, Bea does fine. Her shots are up-to-date and she's been spayed; now all she needs is a good home. If interested, contact the SPCA at (215) 794-7425.
Miss Piggy is an adult cream-colored bulldog currently at a foster home though the American Bulldog Rescue, in Newtown. She is totally independent and works well on a leash, in the house and when left alone. The shelter she came from almost put her down several times due to lack of space, but she's made it this far and could really use a permanent home. Miss Piggy is up-to-date on her shots, spayed and could use a loving family to take her in for good. If you're interested in learning more, apply online at www.AmericanBulldogRescue.org. Potential adopters must fill out an application to be …
Baby Abby is one of several kittens dropped off at Susans Cats and Kittens in Churchville in the past few weeks. She is only 8 weeks old, with a tiger-striped tabby pattern. She's had her first shots, is dewormed and litter-trained. She has short hair and is looking for a family to be very sweet with. If you're interested in learning more about Abby, call Susans Cats and Kittens at (215) 357-4946.
Baby Pita was from a litter of seven, but now she's living at a North Carolina foster home until someone takes her in permanently. She's a black lab puppy who is only seven or eight weeks old. If she has a home available, her and her brothers will be up in PA on May 6. She is up-to-date with shots but still too young to be spayed. If you're interested in learning more about Pita, contact Wags Rescue and Referral at (267) 238-7892. View her full Petfinder profile here.
Maryanne has had a bit of a rough past. Due to unknown circumstances in her initial upbringing, she takes a while to warm up to people and trust them. She scares very easily and is slowing building up her confidence. Being around other dogs is good for her, and she's learning how to walk in a leash and play with toys. This hound/shephard mix is probably less than a year old. Although she's pretty afraid of humans, she hasn't shown signs of aggression towards anyone. She also does well with a crate and weighs about 17 lbs. Maryanne is up-to-date on her shots and will be spayed and tested for …
Carrie, a labrador retriever and terrier mix, is young and ready to play! She needs a family who is ready to give her as much exercise as a youthful dog needs but also ready for her cuddly personality. She's going to warm your heart if you let her! This pup is crate and house trained, so she's ready to go. She's also spayed and up to date on her shots. She would do best in a house with another dog to keep her company, but she loves to chew on a bone for hours too. Call Wags Rescue and Referral at (267) 238-7892 to find out more information about adopting Carrie. You will also need to fill out…
This pit bull terrier is 7 years old and a beautiful chestnut brown. He needs a home where his owner(s) can give him lots of attention and play time. Bandit is neutered and up-to-date on his shots.  He's house-trained and ready to fit right into a new home. Bandit's adoption fee is $25. Call Tails of Love Animal Rescue at (215) 396-0393 to find out more information.
Although she's in foster care, Josie's time is running short for finding a permanent home. Her temporary owners can't take care of her much longer, and Hillside SPCA only puts horses in foster homes because they can't keep them at the facility. She's an appaloosa mix who's at a normal weight despite being severely malnourished when Hillside received her. She's had some western pleasure training and is very responsive when riding. Josie has a case of moonblindness but still maneuvers well and is very respectful of fence boundaries. If you're interested in taking a look at or adopting Josie, …
Madison is a 9-month-old tabby who is a little shy but very sweet. She has all her shots and is spayed, so she's set to go home with someone very soon. Rescued from an abandoned apartment building that was about to be demolished, Madison just needs a warm place to hang out and an owner to cuddle with. To learn more and meet Madison, call Susan's Cats and Kittens in Churchville at (215) 357-4946 or check out her Petfinder listing.
This week we have Flower Power, an American Bulldog mix, who is an affectionate young dog who is housebroken and likes being in her crate. She's not too talkative nor does she chew thing she isn't supposed to. She's mellow except to greet you when you walk in the door and is very happy just being by your side. If you're interested in adopting Flower Power, please contact American Bulldog Rescue by emailing them at jodi.specter@verizon.net.
Rescued from a junk yard, Leroy is a 3-year-old neutered male. He has a tuxedo coat and is up-to-date on his shots and vaccinations. He's littertrained and loves to be around other people and other cats, so he's a great addition to homes with pets already. Contact Susans Cats and Kittens in Churchville if you're interested in taking Leroy home.  To adopt Leroy, contact Susans Cats and Kittens, in Churchville at (215) 357-4946. View his listing here.
Miss Kitty, a lovable black-and-white-patched adult cat, was rescued from living alone, outside in the cold. She loves to sit in your lap and purrs for long periods of time. She has a pleasant personality and would make a wonderful companion. She is healthy, approximately 5 years old, spayed, up-to-date on her vaccines and ready for a home of her own! To meet her call Donna at (215) 485-8782.
Currently staying at the Animal Rescue and Referral in Richboro, Missy is a spayed German Shepard mix who's seen her share of life. Now she's looking for somewhere to settle down, preferrably in a home without cats, to live the rest of her years with a loving family or even a senior with some time to devote to her. Missy is shy at first but warms up to people quiclky and can be full of energy. She's great with other dogs and is comfortable being at home by herself, but loves to romp around with other pups at doggy day care. Set her up with some soft toys and give her a soft ear scratch or …
