Area painters meet at an Ivyland art teacher's studio for weekly sessions.
They watch each other. They laugh and learn. They critique. But, mostly they paint. Once a week 20 area artists–from Bristol, Newtown, Washington Crossing, Elkins Park, Huntingdon Valley and beyond–crowd into Miriam Warfield's Ivyland studio to learn from their master, share ideas and take each other's feedback as they take paintbrush to canvas. The informal "Just Painters" group was born about a decade ago after Warfield's then-regular class at The Painters Nest in Upper Southampton was forced to take a hiatus after the studio's closure. Council Rock hosts a night of jazz music Friday at Newtown Middle School.
Students from Northampton will participate in the Council Rock Jazz Night event this Friday. The event will be held in the auditorium of Newtown Middle School from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. It will be the 13th year for the Jazz Night festival, according to organizers. Admission is free and open to the public. All are welcomed to attend. All Council Rock elementary, middle and high school jazz bands will be peforming. There wil lbe performances by Maureen M. Welch, Newtown, Rolling Hills, and Hillcrest Elementary Schools; Holland, Newtown and Richboro Middle Schools; and Council Rock High Schools North and South.

Bucks County Community College’s Department of the Arts is hosting a free concert series, which continues this week with three performances.
The Bucks County Community College Department of the Arts is in the midst of a free concert series that culminates Thursday with a performance from a big-band style jazz orchestra. In addition to Thursday's finale, there will be free performances Monday and Wednesday. The Classical Ensembles perform Monday. Classical Ensembles consist of the Low Brass Ensemble under the direction of Brendan Hartz, and the Woodwind Ensemble and Saxophone Quartet, under the direction of Len Pierro. The 50-voice Concert Choir performs Wednesday under the direction of Rochelle Reed and faculty member Edward Ferdinand. The Music Area of Bucks County Community College’s Department of the Arts is presenting a six free concerts, culminating in a performance by a big-band style Jazz Orchestra. The concerts, which start this week, are part of the school's Arts at Bucks celebrations. All concerts will be held in Presser Music Room in the Music & Multimedia Center beginning at 7:30 p.m. on the Newtown campus. The festivities kick off tonight, when the Chamber Jazz Ensemble presents a free concert. The concert will feature students performing selections from a repertoire specifically composed for small-group jazz ensembles. The Madrigal Singers take the stage on Wednesday.
