Senior Games Set for Northampton
Two days of the Bucks County Senior Games will be held at the Northampton Senior Center.
With the Olympics coming up this summer, the 30th Annual Bucks County Senior Games are a local way to get in on the action.
The games run from May 7 to 19, and events on May 9 and 10 will be held at the Northampton Senior Center. They are sponsored by the Bucks County Commissioners, the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Area Agency on Aging.
All seniors older than 50 are invited to play in this year's games and can participate for a $11 flat fee. There are more than 20 events ranging from golf to billiards to competitive swimming. Two new events this year include pickleball and rowing.
The games fall during Older Americans Month, and the theme this year is "Never Too Old to Play." They will finish with a luncheon at Twining Village and an Active Aging Expo at The Fuge in Warminster.
Each year more than 400 seniors compete in the games, whose purpose is to encourage seniors to stay healthy and active, Northampton Supervisor George Komelasky said.
This year there will be a competition between the local senior centers and YMCAs, so membership to one of those entities should be noted on the registration form.
Interested seniors can fill out an application at the senior center or online through the Bucks County Website.
