St. Vincent de Paul's Pastor says he is "inspired and hopeful" about the new Pope Francis, who was selected Wednesday as the 266th pope after two days of conclave meetings.

"His simple life style is beautiful, as is his commitment to continue Jesus' mission to bring the good news to the poor," said Rev. Joseph McLaughlin, of St. Vincent de Paul Parish.

Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, the son of an Italian railway worker, is the first Latin American pope to lead the church. 

McLaughlin said he authored an article for Sunday's parish newsletter about his reaction to the new pope, what it means for the Catholic faith and St. Vincent de Paul Parish.
