Northampton has Cluster of Thefts from Vehicles

Thieves grab everything from iPods to sunglasses from 11 cars in two days. Message from police: Lock your car doors.

 

In its most recent blotter, Northampton Township Police Department reports thefts from 11 vehicles in two days.

Sunday
Dec. 9, 2012

100 block of Adams Court
The complainant reported at 3:10 p.m. that she saw two men rooting through the glove box of her vehicle that was parked in the lot by her home.  She last saw the suspects walking towards Independence Drive. On arrival, officers found two vehicles that had been gone through; the complainants and one other. At the time of the report it was unknown what had been taken from either vehicle. 

The first suspects was described as a white man, wearing a gray sweat suit and knit cap the second as a white man, wearing a baseball cap.  No further description of either subject was provided.

500 block of Adams Court
The victim reported that sometime between 10 p.m. Dec. 8 and 10:30 a.m. Dec. 9 someone had entered his unlocked vehicle and took am iPod Nano valued at $10

In front of building 15 Bennett Place
The victim reported that sometime overnight an unknown suspect(s) had entered his vehicle and took a pack containing miscellaneous property.  The pack was recovered in a common area off of Taylor’s Way. The only item believed to still be missing was a $170 pair of sunglasses.

Unit block of Taylor’s Way
The complainant reported that while driving down Taylor’s Way he noticed clothing and a briefcase lying under a tree.  Officers recovered the items learning they had been removed from a vehicle on Taylor’s Way.  The property was returned to the owner who reported nothing else to be missing from the vehicle.

300 block of Wayne Court
The complainant reported seeing a purse lying in the retention basin across from the Tapestry development pool. The purse was recovered by officers who found it had been taken from an unlocked vehicle on Wayne Court. The property was returned to the owner who indicated nothing was missing from it.

300 block of Wayne Court
While recovering stolen property from the retention basin off of Independence Drive officers located a GPS navigation device belonging to a resident in the 300 block of Wayne Court.  The victim was contacted and she found that two of her unlocked vehicles had been gone through sometime overnight. Still missing was a $20 iPod and a $500 set of headphones.

100 block of Monroe Court
The complainant reported that sometime overnight someone had entered his two unlocked vehicles and removed items leaving them in an adjoining grassy area.  Nothing of value was found to be missing.

Monday
Dec. 10, 2012

200 block of East Village Road
The complainant reported that sometime between 7 p.m. Dec. 8 and 9 a.m. Dec. 9 unknown suspect(s) had stolen an iPod, EZ Pass and GPS navigation device from her vehicle. A neighbor who saw the officer taking this report stated she found the items lying in a grassy area on the morning of Dec. 9 and placed them in a bag of rice in an attempt to dry them out to identify their owner. The items were returned to their owner.

Unit block of Sunbury Court
The victim reported that sometime over the weekend unknown suspect(s) had entered her unlocked vehicle a stole a laptop and a small purse. The laptop had an estimated value of $1,000.  No value was given for the other missing items.

300 block of Wayne Court
The victim reported a video game was stolen from his vehicles glove box sometime after 9 p.m. Dec. 7.  No value was given for the item.

It still baffles me that people leave their cars unlocked AND with valuables inside. Is pushing the lock button that much of a burden? You are only encouraging these vandals to keep stealing by leaving the cookie jar open.

Thanks for the comment, TF. I'm not trying to give anyone an invitation to come in my car by leaving the doors unlocked, but even though I never leave my doors unlocked my car has been broken in to twice (in Philly).
