ATC, Township Near Cell Phone Tower Solution

American Tower Corporation presented an alternative plan for cell phone towers that were originally planned for residential neighborhoods.

The cell phone pole battle between Northampton Township and American Tower Corporation is nearing its end, according to the Board of Supervisors.

Supervisor Chairman Frank Rothermel said that it is likely that ATC will work out alternative placement for the poles. The company briefed township officials and members of Citizens of Northampton Township Against Cell Towers (CONTACT) on the new plan.

ATC can make minor adjustments before presenting the changes to the community at a special meeting.

"ATC will be in attendance with a representative," Rothermal said, "and will go through the plan at that time."

Residents will also have the opportunity to to ask questions at the meeting, which is slated for Monday, Aug. 13, or Tuesday, Aug. 14, at Richboro Middle School.

In June, a judge approved a stay of proceedings so that the township, ATC and CONTACT could work to negotiate a solution to the Distributed Antenna System issue. The involved parties have until the end of August to reach a solution, Township Solicitor Michael Savona explained after the court hearing.

I'm glad to see that the Northampton Supervisors got on top of this issue, or this could have been a disaster for homeowners all over the township.
