Every Vote for Cradles to Crayons in 6abc Virtual Book Drive Puts Disney Book in the Hands of a Local Disadvantaged Child: Regional Nonprofit Urges Community To Take Part in Book Drive -

“Every vote for Cradles to Crayons in the 6abc Virtual Book Drive means another great Disney book will get into the hands of one of the tens of thousands of young children in the Greater Philadelphia region living in a low income situation.”

Calling it the homestretch in a race that that could pay off in thousands of books for the area’s disadvantaged young children, Cradles to Crayons Executive Director Michal Smith today urged all friends to cast a vote for the local nonprofit organization as the “6abc, Disney XD, Marvel, First Book Virtual Book Drive” begins its final two weeks.

“Voting could not be easier,” Smith explained. “We are asking all our friends to have their families, friends, neighbors, coworkers and others in their community to go to www.facebook.com/6abcPhiladelphia, become a fan, and click on the ‘Virtual Book Drive’ tab, or for a direct link to vote, click www.tinyurl.com/6abcbookdrive. And,” she continued, “they can vote as frequently as they wish before the Drive concludes at the end of this month.

“For the children we serve,” Smith noted, “some 77 percent of whom live in families with household incomes below $15,000 a year – considerably lower than the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services-defined federal poverty level of $23,550 annually for a family of four – we  are talking about more than books,” she stressed, “we are talking about literacy!

“This is such a vital effort,” Smith concluded, “and the payoff is guaranteed. Every vote for Cradles to Crayons in 6abc's ‘Virtual Book Drive’ between now and February 28 means one additional book will be donated to Cradles to Crayons for distribution to a disadvantaged child in our community, which just could be,” she added, “the only books this child receives all year.”
